And In The End The Love You Take

... Is equal to the love you... ah, fuck it.

I'm off to grab a bottle of cheap plonk then off to Uncle Stan's to do my weekly laundry, his dinner, his housecleaning, and his lawn & garbage detail as per usual. Also, while I'm on the topic, could someone please explain to me WHY we don't have Two Buck Chuck in Canada? or Trader Joe's for that matter?

It's not like I'm asking for eternal love, happiness, or anything. Just a good, cheap bottle of red would do the trick. And this phone book. And this chair. And this ashtray, paddle game and remote control. And these matches. And this lamp.

Ok. Moving onwards. I posted this a long time ago, but very recently stumbled over it again, and I still think its pretty cool. Cool that is, if you're into watching a guy get a standing ovation by juggling to the Beatles.

So it's a wet, rainy, gray Sunday afternoon and I'm off to White Rock. I'd much prefer spending it in other ways (Read: Hopefully being naked, hot and sweaty with someone of the female persuasion immediately springs to mind), but family is, after all family. I also have little else pressing socially, and I think I also could use some more good karma. It seems to be in short supply these days.

Smiling As The Shit Comes Down

Dick
: I guess it looks as if you're reorganizing your records. What is this though? Chronological?
Rob: No...
Dick: Not alphabetical...
Rob: Nope...
Dick: What?

Rob: Autobiographical.
Dick:
No fucking way.

With all that goes on in this absurd circus, I've always relied on the soundtrack of my life to see me through the days of wine & roses. With apologies to James Earl Jones & W.P. Kinsella, baseball isn't the one constant in our lives, its music.

Which brings me to one of my favorite actors, in one of my favorite movies; John Cusack in the great remake of Nick Hornby's High Fidelity. It hammered home men's fears, their juvenile way of dealing with everyday shit, but was touching and endearing when dealing about love, life, loss and well - that pretty much sums it up. Cusack's Rob Gordon went on and on about lists, the most important women he has lost in his life, and how to equate everything to the perfect mixed tape. With this, he can get through his day, be it the top 5 songs for the end of the world, the top 10 songs that will get him through another break-up, or even making the perfect mixed tape to seduce a stranger. Here is just a smattering of my many favorite things about one of my favorite movies:

I miss her smell, and the way she tastes.
And of course, Jack Black getting his freak on.

There really isn't much of substance to sum up. Just an amalgamation of a few events that have been swirling around my drain of late, that have made me learn a few things, and made me want a few things.

Rob: Now, the making of a good compilation tape is a very subtle art. Many do's and don'ts. First of all you're using someone else's poetry to express how you feel. This is a delicate thing.

The Heart Is A Bloom

Yes indeedy.

Lots has happened, lots has gone on, lots more is going on.

Other than a rather startling turn of recent events is, all that's fit to print is that is an amazing Saturday morning, the breeze is flowing through my open windows, and my living room is bathed in sunlight.

Tonight is dinner with friends and lamenting the recent loss of our pal Dawson. Dawson was my friend's Golden Retriever, who was put down last week at the rip old age of 13. I even went with them all those years ago to pick him up from the breeders when he was 8 weeks old - so Dawson & I go way back. We were tight. It's going to be bittersweet, as I'll miss my friend (more on this later), but I AM bringing one of my Uncle Stan's homemade Stansberry pies for dessert.

For today? My apartment is about to get a much needed top to bottom cleaning. There are things that need to be tidied up, some things need to be fixed, some things need to be put back in their place, and more things that have long been overdue need to be gathered together, tied up and let go. Out with the old, in with the new.

It's a beautiful day.
