Magic Hour
It was so quiet here this morning, on a beautiful, sunny Sunday, that I was going to write something about this about 10 hours ago - but I didn't. Instead, I went out, noodled, shopped, got outside, and called some friends who I haven't talked to in quite a while.
Now, 10 hours later - it is still incredibly quiet. The traffic noise is non-existent, and the sun is still sort of high on the horizon, but is lazingly approaching the point which photographers call "Magic Hour". This is when the angle of light starts dropping into a more horizontal line towards my particular spot on the planet, and everything starts to get all colored and rich (partly from all the pollution and haze in the atmosphere). The West Coast is bathed in golden light, the trees are glowing with luscious reds, and the streets are alive with vibrant orange hues, all while streaming through my window on a beautiful, hot Sunday evening.
I called my friend this afternoon just to say hello and was shocked to find it was her birthday. I should have known this but had completely forgotten, but she was cool with it. We had a nice chat and made plans to see each other next weekend.
I drove past the beach today. I walked up and down Denman Street. I went over to the North Shore, and then I came home, got quiet and just looked out the window.
The following is a thing from the great John Paul Jones (From Led Zeppelin), and Paul Gilbert (A hot-shot 80's guitar hero) doing a magnificent version of Zeppelin's "Going to California".
So the moral of today's story is:
1) Listen to this as you go about your business
2) Open "D" tunings rock.
3) Enjoy the sunlight streaming through your window.

Time Slinks Away With Our Jewels In The Night
With a grateful, apologetic nod to Salon.com, and the great Cary Tennis...
I'm home (as per usual) and (sort of) writing again after a rather long go of it the last little while.
For reasons that really aren't that important to anyone but me - its been a bit of a struggle. But that's not the point. The point is that sometimes, when things are going lousy, and all looks bleak, you always find that little ray of sunshine that can give a little nudge for reasons no-one else could ever understand. (It's personal, and abstract, capice?)
One of these is Cary Tennis. This cat is foremost a mensch on a biblical scale, and well, he just has a a way of writing that takes my breath away.
This is just one of the many reasons why he's a righteous dude.
